The curriculum contains five levels. Each level has to be completed in order to join the next. Every level is held in eight weekly sessions. The entire program is constructed with a focus on longform improvisation. Though shortform and games will not be excluded.
Level I:
The Basics
In this level you will learn the basics of improvisational theatre. Together you will build up a group dynamic and get into the mindset of an improv player. Since this level is meant to get the group together and is not only the general basics of improv theatre but also of this entire curriculum, students with experience are also asked to complete this level in order to move on.
Level II:
Character Development & Scene Work
In Level II we will dive into character work. Going into two person scenes we will develop characters and relationships. You will also learn how to start a scene, how to build a scene with your partner and how to feel and develop the relationship between your character and theirs.
Level III:
Games and Openings
This level will put an emphasis on the group aspects of longform improv. You will get even closer with your team-mates. You will learn different group games, which, while different from shortform improv, often take inspiration from it.
Level IV:
Longform
Here we will put everything together and combine group games and scene work to get to longform improv.
Level V:
Then and Now
You will learn already existing forms of longform improvisation (such as - of course - the Living Room, the Harold, etc.) as well as develop your own longform as a group.
